“Perfect!!”
Reviewed 19 October 2011

Spent two nights here in October with a group of friends and had a blast!! The owners are so awesome, very accommodating and clearly make a real effort to ensure our stay is a good one. Gave us all extra towels to use the pool and sauna and even gave us paper plates and cutlery with out barbecue tools when we used the outdoor cooking area.

The location was perfect for us, right in the middle of Ukee close to brunch spots, pubs and friend’s houses – just a short crawl away! Also, it was wonderful waking up in the morning and looking out over the harbour – the boys really liked this part. :-P

Indoor pool was clean and nice and warm, the sauna was such a treat some of us used it twice during our stay!

For a group of us looking to have a fun weekend in Ukee this was the perfect place for us – we’ll be back!! :-)

Room Tip: If you’re a group looking to have a good time and possibly a late night, grab a room on the ground floor for easy access.

“Great Hotel, Great Owners”
Reviewed 6 September 2011

My fiance and I took a spur-of-the-moment road trip to Vancouver Island’s west coast during one gorgeous summer weekend in August 2010. We got to Tofino and prepared ourselves with food and wine, but – being too involved in being with each other and not involved enough in noticing that we were in a tourist trap on one of the last weekends of summer – we neglected to reserve ourselves a hotel room.

At around 8:30 pm we dragged ourselves off the beach and into Tofino. Nothing. Nothing was available except for one questionable establishment (the reviews on it in Trip Advisor were really terrifying). We called everywhere. We looked online for hotels, B&Bs, anything, but everywhere was full. Finally, at around 10:30, we called the West Coast Motel in Ucluelet. The owner, Brenda, answered right away. They had a room!!! We immediately reserved it. This motel is a small, family-run business and it was getting really, really late and we still had another 45 minutes of driving before we’d get there, so Brenda offered to put the key under the mat for us. We stumbled in at around 11:30. The key was right where she’d said it would be. No hotel room had ever looked more inviting (we really had been prepared to spend the night in the car).

The room itself was nice, especially for the price range. It was very clean and well maintained, with a nice bright yellow and blue colour scheme and a somewhat nautical theme (of course – it being right on the harbour). It did not seem dated and looked like – if not recently renovated – then at least incredibly well-maintained. The bathroom was small but well-stocked and – again – clean. They’d put a corner toilet in the bathroom which made it considerably more spacious. Smart thinking. The bed was comfy. We had an excellent sleep.

The next day we met Jeff, Brenda’s husband. He gave us a rundown on all the best things to do in Ucluelet. He is really a fan of his town and sells it well. He was friendly and knowledgable and sincere and we look forward to going back and spending more time in Ucluelet based on what he said.
